First guide dog to help blind people in China’s Xi’an being trained
The first guide dog in the city of Xi’an, the capital of China’s northwest Shaanxi Province, will begin active service in October.
Over the past few months, the two-year-old guide dog has regularly appeared on the city’s subway trains with her trainer.
The black Labrador, named Hei Mei, has been training at a provincial guide dog centre, the first of its kind in the northwest of the country, for a year.
It is now being trained to go through the security checks and turnstiles, as well as how to get in and out of subway cars and navigate escalators, said Li Sai, the dog’s trainer.
